case studies and samples of my prior and current design work

"We must burn in order to live."

Currently designing a mechanical keyboard keycap set themed around elements from the movie "Promare" by Studio Trigger, which I will try to get manufactured as a "group buy" down the line. I am currently approaching the "interest check" phase of that process!

This project has helped me better understand the challenges of designing a physical product, allowed me to become more comfortable working with vector graphics, and has required me to prepare a convincing pitch for other members of the mechanical keyboard community.

Features:

  • Custom, open-source English and Japanese fonts approved for commercial use

  • Pantone color-matched palette for manufacturer reference

  • Thematic icon modifier key options

  • Novelty key options which reference the film

(Currently in development for Android)

An informational resource and comprehensive database of the items within the game for players interested in the collecting aspect of the game. Emphasis on solid, mobile-first design and usability.

mindfulness app for young adults with anxiety

Graduate thesis project.

Take a Breath is a “mindful breathing” iOS app for young adults with anxiety designed to be discreet, free, and accessible. Initially this was a suite of mindfulness exercises, but I decided to focus specifically on the breathing element for the purposes of running a study. Received IRB-approval to run a study to determine whether it was safe to use, which we confirmed it was.

User Research

some explorations of gender

The intersection of gender and games was something I enjoyed exploring during graduate school. I did two projects related to that, one through a critical studies lens and the other from the perspective of participatory culture.

possibly the most self-indulgent Stardew Valley mod ever

Do you ever look at a game and think, "wow, this is already so great, but... what if frogs?" No? It's just me?

Anyway, I made a silly mod for Stardew Valley using an existing framework (Paritee's Better Farm Animal Variety) to add 12 different varieties frogs to the game as coop animals. They hang out looking cute and bring you little gifts, like ore and foraged items. This was my first time making a Stardew mod, my first "real" pixel art project, and also my first time doing animation!

twitter campaign for "The Big Bang Theory"

I wrote and managed an official transmedia marketing campaign for the Season 6 DVD release of "The Big Bang Theory." As all posts going out through the official Big Bang Theory accounts had to be pre-approved by Warner Brothers, I had to anticipate what kinds of questions we might be asked and provide multimedia content (text, image macros, video clips) which could be used in response.

An overview of the project can be found in the case study video below.
